We Didn’t Go to Shermer–A John Hughes Tribute Song
My name is Kevin and I am a child on the Eighties. As a result, the movies of John Hughes were a very important part of my adolescence. Hughes simply had a gift of really understanding what it meant to grow up during that time. Many have tried and will continue to try to make John Hughes like classics, but will always fall just a little short. May you rest in peace John Hughes. I am sure that you will serve as “the eyes and ears of this institution” (Carl the Janitor in The Breakfast Club) called heaven.
Without further ado, I present you with the following song, sung to the tune of Billy Joel’s We Didn’t Start the Fire.

Ferris Bueller, Farmer Ted, Home Alone, Bra on Head
Mr. Mom, Schooner Tuna, Weekend Detention

Borrowed Panties, Cousin Eddie, Christmas Bonus, Let’s Go Steady
Amanda Jones, Kid Home Alone, Hot Chick Invention

Panicked Mom, Brat Pack, Long Duk Dong, Duckie’s Quack
Loose Screw, Draining Poo, and Anthony Michael Hall

Richard Vernon, Jake Ryan, Lamp won’t work for Brian
Half Dressed Lisa, Tour of Pisa, Wrigley Field Base Ball

We Didn’t Go to Shermer
Like John Bender and Claire
The Girl with Flaky Hair
We Didn’t Go to Shermer
Geek Brian Johnson Did
So Did the Jocky Kid

Mr. Rooney, Breakfast Club, Nine Times, Rusty’s Chub
Donger Needs Food, Brinkley is Nude, That Clock is Fast

School Dance, Horny Teen, Dead Aunt on Roof, Prom Queen
Eat My Shorts and Wally World’s a Blast

Math Club, Real Tree, Neo Max Zoom Dweebie
Pig in a Poke, Twist and Shout, Pretty in Pink, Face Breakout

Night Gear, 80’s stars, Sixteen Candles, Fast Cars
Abe Frohman, Hit by Can, Life Moves Pretty Fast
We Didn’t Go to Shermer
Like John Bender and Claire
The Girl with Flaky Hair
We Didn’t Go to Shermer
Geek Brian Johnson Did
So Did the Jocky Kid

The breakfast club and some kind of wonderful are his best movies!
RIP
i grew up on this guys films
I used to watch his movies all the time when I was sick or home during school time!
Wow! Nice work! That must have taken a long time, great stuff. I didn’t know he did Lampoons Vacation, I must have watched that 1000 times growing up.
Oh the Brat Pack, Mr Rooney, Walleyworld and Ferris Bueller’s famous line: It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
You took me down my 80’s memory lane!
Although i dont belong to the eighties era, still i am great fan of John Hughes, he was a classic man with a very deep insight of humans. He made his character come alive and the subject he touched were really good.he knew the pulse of the audience. My all time favourite of his works were Breakfast Club and lampoon’s vacation. I would like to watch more of his movies.
Oh, memories!! I love the Christmas Vacation pics… time to head to Blockbuster for some previously-viewed movies. My 80s collection is seriously understocked.
John Hughes is one of my favorite directors. The man really created the genre of “teen comedies” in the 1980s with the release of “Sixteen Candles,” “Pretty in Pink” and “Weird Science” among others. In the 1990s he brought us such classics as the “Home Alone” movies and “Christmas Vacation.”
