The other day I finally mustered up the courage (or maybe stupidity) to do something that I have been avoiding for a month or two. I decided to check my 401K balance. After realizing that I have almost lost half of my all-time high balance, I threw up a little in my mouth and then quickly swallowed the bitter taste.
If I do not laugh about this situation, I am probably going to cry, so. . . I now present you with some parodies of some famous songs set in these tough economic times.
Recession Man–sung to the tune of Piano Man from Billy Joel
It’s 2 o’clock on a working day
The laid off are already in
There’s my old boss sitting next to me
Looking sad and unusually thing
He says, son can you pass the pretzel sticks
I haven’t eaten for two days
But it’s sad and it’s sweet, I live on the street
‘Cause layoffs let them keep their raise
La, la, la, de, de, da
La, la, de, de, da, da, da
Sing us a song, you’re the Recession Man
No tips for you tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for some stimulus
But Obama’s fighting the Right
Now government checks are a friend of mine
I get some food for free
And my life is a joke, since I’m freakin’ broke
Damn those bailouts, don’t you agree
Everyday the stock market is killing me
I just sit home watching Office Space
Well I’m sure I could land a decent job
If the market was not a disgrace
Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da
Now Paul was a mortgage specialist
Who had enough clients for life
But damn Freddie and Fanny, and bills from Old Navy
Tried cutting his wrists with a knife
And the waitress is picking up pennies
Her wallet, dry as a bone
Yes she used to work for Merrill
Now she’s in need of a loan
Sing us a song, you’re the Recession Man
No tips for you tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for some stimulus
But Obama’s fighting the Right
Jim had lost his job on a bloody Tuesday
He was looking at little hostile
Cause he got the decree, from his bankruptcy plea
The credit companies want a trial
And there’s scant hope for a recovery
Our economy stuck in low gear
As 401K’s fall, and chimps start to maul
I need another cheap beer
Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da
Sing us a song, you’re the Recession Man
No tips for you tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for some stimulus
But Obama’s fighting the Right
My Recession Things –sung to the tune of My Favorite Things from the Sound of Music
More Shopping at Walmart, cheap Chinese from kittens
No heat in the house, we just wear some mittens
Brown bag lunches overflow the small work fridge
These are some things the Recession brings
Unemployment for me, Forced to sell the poodle
Budget now makes us eat lots of Ramen noodle
Cash for our gold and selling our nice rings
These are some things the Recession brings
Everyday layoffs with stock market crashes
Hope Obama can lead us from the ashes
Sleeping on mattresses with broken springs
These are some things the Recession brings
When the bills come
When the checks stop
When they foreclose my pad
I’ll simply go on a drinking binge
And then I won’t feel so bad
Did I mention that I do take requests?
love this but I’d like to hear your version of American Pie!!!
Hahahaha. I love the Chinese restaurant sign. That is priceless! xD
You should check out the FailBlog (failblog.org)
They have tons of awesome stuff like that.
Ha ha good song, I’d like to listen this version
Great parodies! I’d almost use those but my recording set up is still getting set up… sigh. Another thing that’s not easy to do in a bad economy.
Very funny lyrics – given the constant bad news these days I think it is important to try to cheer ourselves up somehow and to always look on the bright side of life.
Yes it is important to be positive in these times. Thanks for the cheer ups!
