Completely Free from Wordpress

Even after paying $10 to domain map my wordpress blog to my new domain, my account was again frozen because I have affiliate links on my website. There must be thousands of wordpress blogs that have affiliate links on them, but I guess once you get enough traffic to your site, wordpress will shut you down. As a result, I terminated my domain mapping (which was automatically redirecting cashcratewoks.wordpress.com to redstaplerchronicles.com). I am now completely free from wordpress control and can now start using java script. You may have already noticed that I have started to experiment with some ads.

Does anyone have any good ad networks that they can recommend?

The lesson learned here is simple. If you are serious about blogging, you need to make the investment of securing your own domain name and host in the VERY START of your blogging journey. Since I did not do this, I will be spending countless hours trying to change any cashcrate.wordpress.com link out there to my new domain. Unfortunately, I can’t control Google’s results. Consequently, I will not be removing my wordpress.com blog completely. Two questions I need answered are:

1. Do I continue to post at both domains for a while—I have seen conflicting answers on this topic

2. Do I include a “The Red Stapler Chronicles has moved here” message on ever post and page on the wordpress.com blog

Any advice for me??

All of last week, I was playing around with methods to drive traffic to my blog. One site I discovered that has given me some nice traffic and has exposed me to some new blogs is Link Referral. This site is great since your traffic is 100% other bloggers–a target rich environment for gaining new readers and to pick up some great blogging tips.

Blog Rush has also started to give me some traffic and has received rave reviews throughout the blogging world. Lastly, I have been submitting my posts to Personal Finance Buzz a social media site that focuses on sharing the best personal finance and money articles…made by a personal finance blogger for personal finance bloggers.

  1. They really shut you down for having affiliate links?
    Wow Didn’t know that
How much are you paying to host this website?

  2. $6.95 a month from bluehost

  3. Thank you for mentioning PF Buzz.

Despite what Wordpress.com did to you, moving to self-hosted Wordpress is one of the best things you can do to your blog.

As far as good ad networks, I’d recommend AdSense, ADSDAQ, Burst, ValueClick, Direct Media Exchange, and Commission Junction to start with.

As far as the link goes, I would keep your set up a 301 redirect to your new domain name from wordpress.com and move your content over.

You could use “search and replace” plugin to rename links within your posts (it’s a little dangerous though), or you could do it manually (it’s going to be a pain).

  4. Pinyo,

Thanks for the advice. Do you get any credit for referring others to those ad networks. If so, let me know, and I will sign up under you. PF Buzz is a great site that I will continue to tell others about.

    Thanks,

    kevin

  6. using free service is always dangerous in my opinion, use your self-hosted wordpress is much better.

  7. thats why wordpress.com sucks at least to me!
they just dont let u put any advertisements!
besides there is no point in paying extra $10 for domain mapping. i would rather use a reliable free hosting as self-hosted wordpress gives u total control.
