Crazy Ways That I Have Tried to Get Traffic
It’s okay, you can admit it, you have probably attempted some crazy techniques in order to get some traffic for your blog, especially when you were starting off. Recently I ran across a guy on Digital Point that was promoting his site (which was basically just some adsense and a host gator ad) by promising that he would pay one cent to anyone who visited via paypal. Of course, I went directly to the site and registered for my penny, which I received a couple of days later. His site keeps on going up and down, but if you are interested you can check it out at Get A Cent

So what crazy things have I tried?
1. Made fliers promoting my blog that I put in all 20 laundry rooms in my apartment complex–They were all taken down in less than 2 days–DOHHHH

2. Changed the home page on computers in libraries and at my work to redirect to my blog.
3. Posted my link with a small blurb about my blog on every Myspace, MSN, Yahoo, and Google Group about making money online or blogging.–Banned from posting on Myspace Forums and Groups for this stunt.
4. Submitted my blog to Browsershots (a very useful site that tests your website on over 60 different browsers) a couple of times a week.
5. I started this bogus blog.–Hey, this might have worked if they became the ticket.

6. Finally, and most recently, I changed a Wikipedia entry. Check out the extrernal links on this page for Office Space –Yes, I know a link on Wikipedia will be “no follow” and that it is just a matter of time before someone else deletes it (I trust it won’t be one of my readers), but I had to try this. For the record, it has already lasted 2 days and generated me 5 hits.
Alright, I have admitted my stupidity, now I want to hear from you. Don’t be shy, what crazy things have you done to get traffic??

I have never thought of involving “printed materials” (not online things) to promote blogs… may be it’s a crazy technique, but it seems to be working one:)

Entertaining stuff, particularly since I’m still in the “what the heck can I do to drive traffic to my site?” phase of my two-day-old blog.

LOLOLOLOLOL!! I really liked this post!!! And i think those ideas really works!!!
Relly crazy ideas. I have already thought about the point no. 2. I thought about going to internet cafe and change the home page on every computer. Now from there I can get some visitor. I didn’t do it as I am a little lazy.
Haha, those are some extremely creative ways to get traffic, if I may say so myself. I found out another good way to get traffic was to submit your designs to css showcase galleries

You can use sites like Yahoo Answers. Just find questions that are answered on your blog. Use your URL in the reply.
Just a few ideas. Let me know your results…

Great post ! I want to know when you update your blog, where can i subscribe to your blog?
#2 is awesome. How about adding an affiliate toolbar to all the browsers in the library!
Lol, you are certainly the first person I know that has put out flyers to promote his blog! On top of that, assuming an absurd conversion rate of 20% that would earn you like, what, 100 new visitors?
3. Posted my link with a small blurb about my blog on every Myspace, MSN, Yahoo, and Google Group about making money online or blogging.–Banned from posting on Myspace Forums and Groups for this stunt. << — This makes me laugh it’s not because you’re banned but the sentence sounds funny.
I’m considering adding my blog to dofollow list since now it’s dofollow.
