For some bloggers, chasing a decent Google page rank can be like attempting to locate the holy grail. Everyone seems to have a theory about attaining a high page rank, but few are really able to achieve this goal. Although many over-estimate the importance of page rank, no one can argue that it does have value. Possessing a high page rank can help you in attracting more advertisers and usually will yield some nice Google search traffic.

So how can you increase your google page rank? There are many ways that are well documented that certainly will help your cause. These techniques include:
1. Including a link to your site in all your forum/message board signatures.
2. Submitting articles to various sites (like EzineArticles).
3. Link exchanges with other blogs (very over-rated)
4. Guest Posts
5. Submit site to search engine directories
6. Write great posts that other bloggers will notice and write about

Personally, I have used all of the above techniques to try to strengthen my page rank. However, I did not include what I believe is the primary reason that I was able to get The Red Stapler Chronicles a page rank of 4 in less than 3 months. My secret weapon—drum roll please———Blog Carnivals.
Yes, blog carnivals have been vital in getting me countless backlinks from some great sources. For those unfamiliar with blog carnivals, they simply are a collection of blog posts from numerous bloggers about the same general subject that are hosted by the carnival host. All you have to do is submit your posts to these carnivals and bingo, you have yourself a backlink. However, the true power of blogging carnivals are not unleashed by just submitting your post. Instead, your goal is to be included on various recaps of the blogging carnivals from other bloggers. Many bloggers that participate in these carnivals will devote a weekly post to recapping what they feel are the best posts (or just use the editors picks) in these carnivals. As a result, a single submission to a blogging carnival can quickly yield you up to twenty backlinks.

Now don’t get me wrong, it is not easy to stand out from the crowd in a blogging carnival and get your post featured. Still, investing some quality time to write a decent post could quickly get you some great results. If I could go back in time and restart my blogging journey, the second after I started my blog, I would have made a visit to this site that lists all active blog carnivals. I would have then constructed a post that would fit the theme of each of the carnivals that I had any kind of interest in and submitted it to the appropriate carnival. Consequently, I would have generated a gigantic number of backlinks before focusing on writing posts about my selected niches.
Oh well, I guess it is better to discover a secret weapon late rather than not at all.

Great post. I’ve never really understood blog carnivals, but after reading your post will check out the link.
I’ve always heard that blog carnivals can be a great resource though I’ve never really tried them myself. Blogging isn’t really my strong suit anyway, I don’t exactly plan on quitting my day job anyime soon

True advice, and even though it seems easy, it does take a little bit of work. But that little bit of work can go a LONG way with your page rank!
