The Lost Art of Saying Thank You
Today at work I heard something that I had not heard in a long time and that made me stop dead in my tracks. One of my bosses actually thanked me for my efforts. Why was I floored with a simple thank you? Quite simply, it had probably been several months before I had heard these words come out of her mouth. Usually I am greeted with a recap of what went wrong the previous day, or the reasons why her job is so difficult. But today my day was instantly trasformed because I received a thank you.

For the rest of the day, I made it a point to thank all of my associates for any reason that entered my head. Although I know I was not as lacking as boss #3 in the thank you department, I’m sure I can do a better job thanking them for their efforts. I quickly wrote the words thanks on a piece of paper, stapled it (of course it was with my red stapler) above my desk so that I would be reminded daily to do the easiest thing possible to reward and motivate my associates.

Applying this lesson to the blogging world, I would like to thank all of the readers of my blog, especially to those who leave comments. Your feedback gives me the energy to post each day. I would also like to thank those of you that helped me when I was brand, spanking new to blogging. Many bloggers completely blew me off or answered my questions quite rudely when I was asked them for advice. Others like The Net Fool, My Good Cents, and Moolanomy found some time to help a new blogger, even though they gained only blogging karma for their efforts.
So after you read this post, immediately make it a point to thank 5 people (either face to face or via the internet). You will feel better about yourself and might even make someone’s day.

I got a sincere “good job” today at work…. it was great to hear!
It does make all the difference. Only yesterday our manager was frantically searching for a missing item in the warehouse and a co-worker got off her butt and helped him look (he didn’t realise this) and she found the item. She told him and he said “oh, ok then” and walked off. He was having a fit looking for this and he didn’t even thank her. I went over and “mildly sarcastically but truthfully” thanked her on his behalf. She understood what I meant. I really don’t respect unappreciative bosses. ok, they may be under stress but this manager just does not acknowledge his staff. Not nice.
Thanks for an great post. A simple thanks can do so much more than most people realize.

That’s a very good reminder - we are too prone to take others for granted, and the effort to show we appreciate is really very small. So - Thanks

That was a refreshing post
I make it a habit to great and smile at everyone in the office at the start of the day, even if I’m having a bad morning.
It’s great to have a Thanksgiving day every single day:) Actually I always thank people and always wait the same in return. I often think that if I’d be offered to choose between “work with rude people and a bit better salary” and “work with polite people and a bit smaller salary”, I’d choose the latter:).
