Your Garbage Reveals All

Do you consider yourself to be frugal and good with your money? Going through your garbage may prove otherwise. Here are a couple of things that may be in your garbage that would prove that you could be doing a better job.

1. Coke or Pepsi Points–Both soft drink manufacturers have reward programs in which you enter codes located on the cap or box to get various prizes. I have actually used the My Coke Reward program to get several magazine subscriptions and a free digital camera.

2. Speaking of magazines, are you really reading your magazines and newspapers? Can you get most of the same information online? For you coupon clippers, could you survive with just the Sunday paper?

3. Are you throwing away too much spoiled food? Did that bulk purchase end up to be not that so great of deal?

4. Clothing–why would you be just throwing away clothes–especially if they are in decent condition. Instead, donate them to charity and get a nice tax write off.

5. Convenient store sized containers of drinks and snacks. Yes, we all love these stores, but the more you use them the less efficient you are with your money.

6. A bunch of credit card bills. It’s okay that you got these bills (as long as you are paying them off in full). What is not okay is the fact tha you can still tell that they are credit card bills. In this climate of identity theft, you need to protect all of your information. It is called a shredded and it may be the smartest investment of your life.

  2. In these tight times, our family has become much more aware of the food we consume. We don’t but much processed food which really cuts down on bills, but I will have to start watching what is going into the trash.

  3. Cool! I agree, there’s money in thrash. For us, it was garbage after all but for our less fortunate fellow, it’s their living to earn money.

  4. We do throw away so much and it’s a shame in these financial times. It’s just become habit to do many of the things you mention. We need to break those expensive habits.

  5. Great tips People don’t know what they are throwing away at times. And Some people just buy a newspaper to make it look like they can read. But the tokens are a very good idea about the credit card bills.
