Did you Lose Some Google Page Rank Today?

Well the rumors about Google updating their page rankings after only 2 months are true. Many bloggers discovered today that they had either gained or lost some Google page rank. As for The Red Stapler Chronicles, I was downgraded like a hurricane hitting landfall from a Page Rank of 4 to a 3. Oh well, at least I was not downgraded all the way to a Tropical Depression :)

don't worry be happy

Although I am not exactly thrilled with this latest development, I am not going to let it bother me. Page Rank is just a number and is definitely one of the most over-rated statistics out there in the blogging world.  Still, since many are obsessed with this ranking, I offer all the bloggers out there a simple parody of a famous Bobby McFerrin song.

Here’s to those left in a fog
Wondering why Google hurt their blog
Don’t worry, keep blogging.
Page Rank is not the most important thing
Alexa is flawed and content is still king
Don’t worry, keep blogging.
Don’t worry, keep blogging now. . .

Can’t believe your page rank is gone
It even happened to Garry Conn
Don’t worry, keep blogging
Stressed about your search results
Tired of all these Google insults
Don’t worry, keep blogging
Don’t worry keep blogging now. . .

  1. I was on the receiving end of a PR increase! I also have another blog that I haven’t updated or paid attention to in about 6 months and it stayed at PR-3… so who knows what’s going on

  2. Sad to say I’m down across the board… I heard it might have a lot to do with hosting all my sites on the same server/IP Anyways grats to your increase and best of luck next time around for those how didn’t do so well!

  3. My blog lost all of its PR, not sure why, my backlnks have skyrocketed, though 90% of them have a PR of zero.

  4. A good majority of my websites went down but the important ones remained stable. Was hoping that my Affiliate Blog would go up but it remained at a low pagerank of 1. Oh well, there is always the next update but I am finding that I am caring less and less about pagerank.

  5. I haven’t even checked the PR for my web site or blog in 8 months. To me, only thing that counts is traffic. And, today, it’s the social and bookmarking boys who deliver this, not the search engines anymore.

  6. I guess I was lucky this time around. No decreases. My blog at http://www.x7seo.com went from a zero to a three. This is only a few months old. I started it to replace my NoviceSEO.com blog which i screwed up royally and blew away. It had a PR of 5…. yikes.

Wonder how long it will be before the next update? Do you think ti might be before the new years?

  7. My new blog seems to still be at zero, I really thought it would gain a pagerank this time (last time it was just a few posts into existence so it didn’t surprise me). From what I remember though the page ranks can fluctuate for a couple days so maybe I will be lucky and get an increase.

  11. One of my sites went down. Yet, another indication that Google is getting more restrictive everyday.

  12. I got an increase of PR 1 from zero :)

  13. my friend site was 4 in pagerank, and now it is 3.
he work a lot to reach 4,
and now all of theme is destroyed…
google you are a bad boy!

  14. While a couple of my blogs actually went down in PR, one of them actually just achieved a PR 5, so I’m pretty happy with the offset. And I completely agree that PR is just a number, and often fretted over by my bloggers. At the end of the day, I like to think about blogs as barroom conversations; you put your opinion out there and invite others to join in the discussion. Last time I ordered a drink, the bartender didn’t stop to ask me what my PR was. :)

  18. Like you, I went from 4 to 3. However, I’ve not noticed any real effect on my bottom line, so I’m not very concerned about it. I’m sure it will come back with the very next update. When it boils down to it, there’s not a lot we can do about it, and it is tremendously over-valued.

  19. Great series and finally got around to writing my own post on this topic . Provide a link back to this post and the great discussion you had on this topic.

  20. Thanks Andy!!

  21. Yea I have a friend who went to PR 4 then dropped to 2 but they shot him back up to 4 a couple of days later. Also true PR is overated but it can bring a lot of instant respect to a site.

  22. I had two of my blogs increase rather than the other way. From a PR 0 to PR4. Not really sure how that happened but still waiting to see if I will drop. But it’s been over two weeks now.

  23. I believe you have the right idea: keep blogging and continuing to add quality content to your site. Ultimately, that meets the needs of your users and that is what the Google algorithm is designed to serve.

  24. My blog, made a huge drop! I had a PR4 and now it won’t even show. Totally bummed out, but yeah it’s just a number. What sucks is I have been telling clients take a look at my blog it has a PR4 they are prolly thinking what is this kid smoking..lolol I am bummed out I have to tell you.

  25. i think i’m the saddest blogger today…

    i used to have a page rank 3 and now it’s gone…

    sob!

no. it isn’t just a number.

  26. Well, for me my pagerank doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of direct effect on my rankings so I usually don’t worry all that much about it. It does go up and down as I gain links from various sources. I don’t think we will ever completely understand Google…

  27. yes, that’s true. google page rank make my head pain. I’m beaten to 0 from 2. But I keep blogging
