Like most bloggers, I have been constantly bombarded with stories of how niche websites have made bloggers a nice passive income. Now that I have finally got an approved adsense account, I decided it was finally time for me to test the waters in the niche website business.
So, for $10 I decided to buy a domain name that I believe has some potential. Unlike most bloggers, who keep their niche sites a secret in order to avoid competition, I will share with you all aspects of my new site. We will have some fun here discussing any success and failures that Obamadales.com might experience. If nothing else, it will be a nice learning experience for anyone who is considering playing around with niche websites.
Drum roll please . . . My first niche site is Obamadales.com
I chose this domain name because I think it is very memorable and Obama related Google searches are always amongst the most popular. Although I do think there tons of competition for Obama keywords, I believe even if I am able to “sneak a couple by the Google goalie,” Obamadales.com could become profitable.
Although I was finally indexed by Google today, I have not seen any search traffic as of yet. I will next concentrate on getting some quality backlinks by writing a couple of articles and submitting the site to some social bookmarking sites. I am also considering writing some legit Obama posts in order to give Obamadales.com some more meaningful (non-ad) content. My first mistake that I think I made was to not include some legit posts first, before adding all my amazon ads.
What do you think? Did I waste $10? What would you do differently if you owned obamadales.com???

Awesome! I love case studies like this. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
I didn’t make the connection with Bloomingdales without it being spelled out, so I thought the domain name was quite odd. But do share if you get any hits like that
I’ve heard you’re supposed to build traffic before monetizing, to avoid an SEO penalty, so again, it will be really interesting to see what sort of love Google gives you.
Good luck with the site!
I wish you luck. I think for most people it takes a long time to make a niche site successful. There might be a few people that can instantly gain great traffic and income but most of the time I think you need to pick your sites and then slowly build up a strong niche site.
@Lindsay–I agree, I look at this as a long term investment. I figure I have at least 4 years (maybe 8 if Obama get re-elected) to make some money of this site.
@Zach–It will be interesting to see how Google treats this site. Got some search traffic today, so I am a little more optimistic. Still, my experience with this blog tells me that I will have to wait a couple of months in the sandbox before getting any major Google love.
Hmm… very unoriginal but has potential. Of course, you won’t let your $10 get wasted. Go for it. Build that website and rake in the moneys. lol. Seriously, I wish you good luck.
A good start… I think people will be nore draw to it if there’s more multi-media, video clips, and also humour. $10 is not so big an investment and as a case study example it looks a good one, wishing you luck and success!
hm – i think that 10 bucks are waisted, sry
good content blog..obama is most serched term on google..
This is a great starting as many of the people have to work very hard to generate more and more visitors but in order to make it successful you need a proper keyword along with niche layout and nice and informative articles.
Interesting idea, I’d suggest you do some keyword research for keywords related to Obama. I did a quick check on the Adwords tool and there are loads of synonym suggestions which you could possibly include to your advantage.
Haha I also did not get the connection with Bloomingdales until it was laid out in front of me. Good luck with the new site at all, it might be tough beating out the news websites if you’re trying to rank for any Obama terms, but I have faith! If it doesn’t work out, you can always do some retail therapy at Bloomingdales, but make sure you grab a Bloomingdales coupon first
